Interview with UK/LA based Fashion Icon: Lucas

I’m super excited to introduce you guys to Lucas. I came across him on Instagram and we INSTANTLY clicked. Check out his blog ourvivids.com to see all the behind the scenes from his snapchat stories, photoshoots, and everything fashion! His style is absolutely dashing and every outfit seems to carry a touch of London. Not including the accent. Not only is Lucas an expert on style, he’s also an independent artist. You can check out his music here which, as you probably guessed, doesn’t end his list of talents. Not only is he in front of the camera, he’s also behind it. He has his “photographer” on his own resume and is taking social media by STORM. His Instagram is @enslucas but I’ll leave the link below!

1. I saw where you used the Newport Street Gallery in London as a style inspiration. Can you tell me more about your view on life imitating art?

Newport Street Gallery has been an inspiration mostly with it’s Jeff Koons exhibition which really inspired me mostly from a colouristic point of view. In my vision actually art imitates life. We should all aspire to turn our lives into a work of art where the dark sides intertwine with the bright notes and which we always regard as an unfinished work, still in need to be perfected.

2. What or who got you into modeling?
I started doing photography at 15 years old and practicing photography with one of my best friends @lastminutecouture I found myself being behind and also in front of the camera. Then art school has offered me a context where I could model and then London. But modelling is not something I do on a regular basis even though I do have an agency and I collab with quite a big number of brands.

3. Who’s your style inspiration?
My style inspiration would be Lucky Blue Smith who I really look up to . I am also very fond of the Old Hollywood style, I will always believe that in a previous life I lived in those times, having dinner at Cipriani’s in West Hollywood and driving a Chevy Malibu.

4. Five of your favorite summer trends: go!
1. suede everything
2. white socks
3. highlights
4. turtlenecks on a rainy day
5. and obviously Stan Smiths

5. What’s a typical day like for you?
A typical day can vary. I can sit all day and watch Orange is the New Black on television or I can have 300 things to do at once, from meetings with an agent, going to a casting, to meetings with a music producer I work close with or doing a photo shoot for a blogger .
I have branched out into several areas from fashion blogging, endorsing and photography to music and music production is a very important thing for me so obviously it gets a bit crowded sometimes.
I believe successful people wake up early and no matter when I go to bed I always wake up no later than 7 am usually 6:30.
A daily workout is always there and I never forget to play the guitar for at least 15 minutes.

FullSizeRender (2)

6. As an independent musician how would you describe your music to other people?
In one word : personal. Everything and anything you hear or will hear from me is created entirely by me from lyrics to melody.
I try to fight for my creative director role and it empowers me a lot to take an executive decision on my craft.

7. What is it you want to say with your photographs & what advice do you have for someone that wants to go into photography?
With my photography I clearly search for my own edge. Unique or not it has to be your input and as long as you feel you’ve given your all in that creative process you’re already on the right track.
When it comes to photography after moving to London I realized how important team work is and how much I needed it.
One advice would be do it with passion, always pay attention to what others are telling you and try to always upstage yourself and not others. Basically be the best version of yourself.

Style Appreciation Post: Cole Sprouse

Hey guys! This is my first Style Appreciation Post, but I plan on doing many more in the future 🙂 So, recently I’ve been seeing Cole Sprouse all over Twitter for his latest distinct style. Can we just take a minute to soak in the fact that even though Cole’s not doing any huge projects right now, he’s still taking the internet by storm.

If you don’t recognize the name, you’ll recognize the face. Cole & his brother played Zack and Cody on the hit Disney Channel show “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody”. Ladies and gentleman: welcome to my official Cole Sprouse appreciation post. Cole’s been combining vintage and modern trends to create the most chilling looks.

This is hands down one of Cole’s most popular photos. The way the overalls put the entire piece together inspires the shoes. Oxfords and loafers go great when you’re trying to create something vintage. If you look closely you can see the accessories: a ring on his thumb and a watch.

This is one of my favorites just because it looks like something right out of an old movie. I feel like Aubrey Hepburn could step right into the scene. Cole’s classic look includes a skinny suit but no accessories. If he did have accessories they’d probably take away from the “classic” vibe that’s going on. There’s another picture from this particular shoot where he leaves the button up unbuttoned, giving it a California feel.

This next look was interesting because he pieced together a raw denim shirt with blue jeans. Cole is the first guy I’ve ever seen to pull this look off. Usually denim on denim comes off tacky but the way he matched it with the jacket comes together almost effortlessly.

This. I saw this and LITERALLY sent it to like five of my friends. Cole's glasses are very peculiar. The aged look seems to be his best. I kinda got a young Leonardo Decaprio vibe.

Well that’s all for my first Style Appreciation Post, but I’ll leave some pictures below. Thanks for reading guys! If you know of anyone you’d like to nominate for next time, please feel free to comment!

Art by Noko

Collaborating with Noah Kocher was the greatest decision. I love finding extraordinary, talented people in this world who aren’t caught up in all the fraudulent hype. You can’t help but become inspired by someone fighting for something they love.

Art by Noko is this totally rad shop I actually discovered on Etsy. This young artist’s fashionable artwork drew me in & I immediately contacted him. He has posters, t-shirts, and my personal favorite: stickers! There’s no way you can look at his work and not feel something wonderful.

il_570xN.924504604_92nn

Although there’s many distinctive kinds of drawings, my favorites are the ones about space & travel. I can literally loose myself in the depths of the universe or the roads leading to adventure.

il_570xN.924244591_1ntk

The stickers are SO big but only $3.00, while shipping is extremely inexpensive. He ships worldwide and everything is handmade! Please please, do yourself a favor and check it out! I put mine on my laptop, where will you stick yours? You can explore Noah’s shop HERE and his Instagram HERE. Thanks for reading guys and make sure to subscribe! xoxo, Mikayla.

Happy Head Tees

You know how everyone has that one shirt that they live in? I’m talking eat, sleep, wear & repeat. Happy Head Tees was kind enough to send me one of those shirts! Before I reveal it, lemme tell you a little bit about this adorable shop. Happy Head Tees is located in Atlanta, Georgia. They do custom orders but if you have nothing in mind, they have a gigantic collection of the neatest graphic t-shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts, and tank tops! One of my favorite things about this shop, is that their shirts are printed on American Apparel 50/50 poly-cotton t-shirts. Not only that, they’re SO reasonably priced it’s insane. For those of you that don’t know, I’m a vegetarian & occasional vegan. This shop truly has a little bit of everything. They have a section based solely on animal rights. The shirt HHT generously sent me was their “Friends, Not Food.” tee. (You can check it out here.”) If you need a last minute graduation gift but don’t wanna break the bank, Happy Head Tees is your place!

Simon’s VIP Shopper Night

I’ve been meaning to write this post for a while. I’m not sure if it’s procrastination or I’m still in shock. I’m so honored to have been invited to do a style session for Simon’s VIP Shopper Night. It wasn’t my first appearance as a writer but, it was my first time talking about what I love in front of all my wonderful friends and family. I picked “UrbanWear” as my theme because living in a small town, it’s what I see less of. Individuality.

I chose 3 models: Adayzha James, Alex Webb, and Kaylee Jeffries (Miss Young Teen Greer). They were kind enough to let me dress them up, huge thank you Banana Republic for the clothes. (You can explore their website here.) As we arrived, the velvet ropes were going up and the vendors were setting up.

Adayzha: Her gorgeous shaded black hat matched perfectly with the floral romper. The green army jacket fitted effortlessly with the brown belt fastened. When you’re thinking urban, green is definitely a must. If anyone could’ve rocked this outfit it was HER.

Kaylee: The first outfit that I chose for her was stunning, but she has such a radiant personality that we got more creative. Black and white stripes will NEVER disappoint. In fact, I think it was her idea. We threw a blue jean jacket over it to create the most amazing combination. Green pants? I think yes.

Alex: Alex’s look wasn’t very difficult. As much as I hate to admit it, guys usually rock the urban look without even trying. The pattern on the button-up coordinated along with the blue shorts and tan jacket. When you’re thinking urban, think solid colors with patterns.

I’d like to thank Brave Relations, Simon Properties, and Banana Republic. Can’t wait until next time!

Style Steal w/ Guest Blogger “Locating Lifestyle”

Hey guys it’s Mikayla. So today, Paige of Locating Lifestyle is guest blogging! You can check her blog out hereeeee. This blue haired beauty & I paired up to discuss the one. The only. Zoe Kravitz. Her style is breathtaking while the simplicity is enough to make you shudder. Here’s her Style Steal:

Hey loves,

I’m rather excited to share with you today a style steal post! The style we are stealing today comes from one of the queens of street style, Zoe Kravitz. I find so much inspiration in this woman when it comes to style! In my opinion, Zoe is one of those people that can pull off any look and not even just pull it off. She manages to rock it! Some of my favorite moments of her is when she was photographed in the street on an average day in casual everyday clothing. The way she can pull together simple pieces such as converse and sweat pants into a stylish outfit is simply magnificent. The outfit we are going to dive into today has different features you can pull inspiration from to make an outfit of your own, but this post is going to focus on recreating Zoe’s specific outfit in the picture below.

My Phone Was Stolen in Myrtle Beach!

It was spring break 2k16 at the Monatary Bay Suites. Palm trees gently brushed the crisp air. I traveled to Myrtle Beach with an iPhone 5 & came home empty handed.

On the last night my friends Janae, Qieana & I went walking down the boardwalk. There wasn’t a soul on the beach, everyone seemed to be caught up in all the hype. Horns were blaring as we squeezed through the crowds of spring breakers. To my left, four girls jumped out of their car at the red light and started dancing in the street at the beat of the crowd. We proceeded to make a turn into a cute little souvenir shop. Hoodies & t-shirts seemed to swallow us up.

As we trailed down the scattered aisles, we stopped at the messy counter. While my friends were talking to the store employee, I set my phone down & lost focus. As we head out the store, my mind was on the ice cream shop on the corner. Little did I know that as we were leaving, the thieves passed right by us. Five minutes later we raced back to the store to retrieve my phone. It was nowhere to be found. My friends frantically called an employee over. She frightenly said that the guys who came in at the same we left, took it while at the register. All frustration aside, we asked for a description. One had a red hoodie and the other had a black t-shirt. On spring break. In Myrtle Beach. Population: 27,109. After hours of searching, my friends were so supportive. They actually went up to these guys in a group who fit the description PERFECTLY and asked them to empty their pockets. Even though we couldn’t find anything, we only searched the two.

I suddenly remember that we arrived in an Uber! Janae quickly called our driver but sadly, it was nowhere to be found. To be honest, the worst part of the entire experience is having to loose all my memories. When we got back home, a few days later I got an iPhone 6 plus.

As I’m typing this, my phone is laying right beside my keyboard. I’ve still got all my contacts, my notes, and my Candy Crush progress. I lost all my photos/videos. The concerts, the shows, my friends. I felt like a huge part of my life was missing. Then I had a revelation. All my memories swirling around in my head, I usually type up. I don’t need videos. I don’t need a “timeline”. I have ME. I have my writing. I don’t need media to show you guys my experiences, when I can use my words to put you IN them. Yes, I may have lost one of the only good selfies I had. But in the end, I have all I need. Pizza Hut on speed dial. Til’ next time Myrtle Beach!

Menswear in the Women’s Closet: Guest Blogger

It’s my delight to introduce a guest blogger Paige Callahan of Locating LifeStylePaige is an artist, photographer, and fashionista. Although her specialty is fashion, she blogs about just about everything. She’s incredible and without further ado, here’s Paige!

Lately I’ve been really inspired by menswear, and the idea of women taking pieces from the mens section and wearing them on a day-to-day basis.Today we are going to break menswear into two categories: Casual & Dress. I’m going to give you a few images of the women I find inspiration in concerning menswear, talk a little about what they are wearing and how its menswear inspired, and give you all some tips on how to incorporate menswear into your wardrobe.

Erykah

Erykah Badu and Zendaya Coleman are two current women that are rocking this style and they are the two we will be focussing on today. They each have a very different take on the style, and that’s why I chose them. While Erykah stays true to her funky, excessive but put-together style, Zendaya goes her more more streamline, smart, and street-chic approach. We’re going to start with looking at each of their takes on bringing casual menswear into the woman closet and then move right on into the semi-formal outfits!

Casual:
The star piece in this outfit I would have to say are the overalls. The piece itself gives for a more tomboy feel, and the distress adds to the relaxed vibe of the outfit. Like always Erykah’s accessories are a key piece in the outfit and a way she stays true to her style. The way she has layered necklaces that have a single piece on a more bulky chain feeds to the idea of a chain a man might wear. I think it’s important Erykah pulls her look together with a trench style coat and black high-healed booties. The red studded accessory at the top of the booties allows for a smooth transition between the contrasting footwear and denim overalls.
Pulling inspiration straight from a man’s closet, Zendaya is seen in this picture wearing a flat bill NY hat and a fitted white tank. She has also played on the distressed looking denim adding to the tomboy look. The black high-healed boots and trench are used here again to streamline the look for a more put together feel while staying relaxed. The gold hardware seen on her boots and her hoop earrings are more of a metal that would also be seen in the men’s fashion world.

Dress:
Once again Erykah has taken inspiration from menswear by styling a set of leather overalls with a fur cuff at the ankle, a streamlined trench, and the simple statement necklaces that could resemble a man’s chain. One of the new menswear pieces that stands out in this piece for me is the top-hat. This is something I have seen Erykah wear multiple times and she never fails to rock it. Her bold frames also add to the more masculine side of the outfit. The whole idea of limited color in her outfit is very reminiscent of what most guys are comfortable with in their own wardrobe.
Zendaya slayed this plaid two piece suit. It’s clear to her see the menswear inspiration in the outfit through the colors, patterns, and fact structure of the suit. By using a white t-shirt Zendaya was able to let her primary colored plaid set stand out even with her flashy gold accessories. I love how the tone of the metal accessories bring out the glow in her skin tone. The whole outfit works together in a way that creates a chic woman in power vibe while still being playful and young!.

Tips Styling Menswear
1.) Stay simple in regards to pattern, color, and accessories.
-Stick with earth tones and maybe a splash of reds and blues. Patterns should stay manly by wearing geometric prints such as plaid, and vertical and horizontal line. Accessories should also be simple and not have too much bling or color.
2.) Look for more classic pieces.
-Pieces such as a tapered trouser and a simple white tee can instantly create a blank menswear template for you to add your own touch too.
3.) Raid your dad’s closet.
-Finding inspiration in men around you is one of the best ways to find your own take on the menswear trend. Using pieces from your dad or brother’s closet makes for a great place to start trying things out.
