Summer 16′ Jewelry Must-Haves: Guest Writer

Hey guys! I’m insanely excited to introduce the gorgeous, the talented, my latest guest writer: Beth Pembrook. She’s an incredible freelance writer and a student in London. (You can contact her at bethany.pembrook@gmail.com and/or @bethanypembrook.) Can’t wait for you guys to read her article and fall in love with her as much as I did.

When it comes to buying jewelry, I’m a bit of an addict. I make purchase after purchase – because I see so much out there that I absolutely love! The problem is, I usually end up spending so much money on individual statement pieces and then hardly ever wearing them! That’s why this summer I decided to carefully pick of a few stand out pieces that I could wear day in, day out. I wanted styles that wouldn’t get bored of, but also that I could wear day and night.
If you’re keen on doing the same, here are a few tips I have for selecting for Summer 2016 Must-Haves.
Don’t over-do it with the Ear Bling

I am self-confessed earring addict. I have more pairs than I like the think about to be honest. But really, with so many styles and varieties out there – it’s hard not to be! So my advice for this summer is to not go overboard when buying yourself some new earrings. Select a pair that you can wear straight from the office to a festival somewhere, like these super cute Theo Fennell Yellow Gold Bee Earrings (which I’m obsessed with).

Or these Topshop Tortoiseshell Semi Circle Earrings which really make a statement without going over the top.

Go for a Dainty Necklace

Don’t get me wrong, I love a statement necklace as much as the next girl, but Summer 16’ is all about the more delicate neckwear. A dainty necklace can be worn every day, but will also add an extra sparkle to an evening outfit. They really are designed to look as good with a plain t-shirt as they do with a LBD. Take a look at this pretty rose gold hexagon twist necklace from River Island – a must have necklace for this summer in my opinion.

Alternatively, a new trend I’ve seen around is to actually buy loose pendants, stones or diamonds online, in order to create your own unique necklace! You can get a rope chain, like this Rope Necklace from ASOS, for day/festival wear, and a gold or silver chain for more formal occasions – 2 necklaces in 1!

Sterling Silver Rings

I for one have spent hundreds and hundreds of pounds in the past on statement rings that I’ve only worn a handful of times before they’ve turned my finders green – (yuck!). So my advice to you this summer is to go for the (slightly) more expensive sterling silver variety. These are still on budget, but will last a lot longer then any other costume jewelry. I love, love, love these stacking rings from Accessorize. They’re so cute and will go with ANY summer outfit – guaranteed.

I hope these tips help you select the best pieces for you this summer. The general idea for this season is to get over the larger-than-life statement bauble earrings, and huge gem-stone rings, by downsizing for some prettier alternatives.

1. I saw where you used the Newport Street Gallery in London as a style inspiration. Can you tell me more about your view on life imitating art?

Newport Street Gallery has been an inspiration mostly with it’s Jeff Koons exhibition which really inspired me mostly from a colouristic point of view. In my vision actually art imitates life. We should all aspire to turn our lives into a work of art where the dark sides intertwine with the bright notes and which we always regard as an unfinished work, still in need to be perfected.

2. What or who got you into modeling?
I started doing photography at 15 years old and practicing photography with one of my best friends @lastminutecouture I found myself being behind and also in front of the camera. Then art school has offered me a context where I could model and then London. But modelling is not something I do on a regular basis even though I do have an agency and I collab with quite a big number of brands.

3. Who’s your style inspiration?
My style inspiration would be Lucky Blue Smith who I really look up to . I am also very fond of the Old Hollywood style, I will always believe that in a previous life I lived in those times, having dinner at Cipriani’s in West Hollywood and driving a Chevy Malibu.

5. What’s a typical day like for you?
A typical day can vary. I can sit all day and watch Orange is the New Black on television or I can have 300 things to do at once, from meetings with an agent, going to a casting, to meetings with a music producer I work close with or doing a photo shoot for a blogger .
I have branched out into several areas from fashion blogging, endorsing and photography to music and music production is a very important thing for me so obviously it gets a bit crowded sometimes.
I believe successful people wake up early and no matter when I go to bed I always wake up no later than 7 am usually 6:30.
A daily workout is always there and I never forget to play the guitar for at least 15 minutes.

6. As an independent musician how would you describe your music to other people?
In one word : personal. Everything and anything you hear or will hear from me is created entirely by me from lyrics to melody.
I try to fight for my creative director role and it empowers me a lot to take an executive decision on my craft.

7. What is it you want to say with your photographs & what advice do you have for someone that wants to go into photography?
With my photography I clearly search for my own edge. Unique or not it has to be your input and as long as you feel you’ve given your all in that creative process you’re already on the right track.
When it comes to photography after moving to London I realized how important team work is and how much I needed it.
One advice would be do it with passion, always pay attention to what others are telling you and try to always upstage yourself and not others. Basically be the best version of yourself.
