Pentatonix & Us the Duo: live at Bon Secours!

I STILL can’t believe so many people showed up for an a cappella concert. Before we get to that, let’s talk about Us the Duo. Micheal & Carissa Alvarado. All they had was a piano & a mic but they were breathtaking. They truly tried to express themselves through their music. Carissa even sat on the corner of the stage and LITERALLY sang to the crowd. I can’t think of anyone better to open for Pentatonix.

img_4397

Before I knew it, Pentatonix were rising from the bottom of the stage. Screaming came from every which direction as they bounced onto the platform one after the other. Avi Kaplan, Scott Hoying, Kirstin Maldonado, Kevin Olusola, and Mitch Grassi. What left me awestruck was the fact that each voice seemed complimented all the others. According to some nearby fans, Mitch is the fashionista of the group so he’s definitely my next “style steal” victim 😉

WHEN HALLELUJAH CAME ON THE VIBE OF THE ENTIRE VENUE SHIFTED. Phone flashlights lit the arena as Pentatonix honored Leonard Cohen in song.

I’ll leave the setlist and a bunch of other cool pics below! Of course, I happen to leave my camera at home so everything are compliments of Apple’s iPhone 6 Plus.

Tim Russ talks experiences on iCarly, Star Trek, Hannah Montana + more

Although I didn’t get to meet Mr. Russ in person, it was an absolute honor getting to work with him. You may recognize him from “The Twilight Zone”, “Roots”, “Spiderman”, “Law & Order: Criminal Intent”, “ER”, “Unfabulous”, “NCIS”, “General Hospital”, “Lincoln Heights”, “CSI: Miami”, “The Secret Life of the American Teenager”, “Good Luck Charlie”, “Suits”, “The Young and the Restless”, “Guys with Kids”, “Arrested Development”, and more! Whew. My fingers are exhausted after all that typing sooooo, if you wanna read or learn more about him you can check out his website here: timrusswebpage.com.

FUN FACT– Along with Armin Shimerman and Ethan Phillips, he is one of only three “Star Trek” regulars to appear in three different “Star Trek” series- Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987), Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993) and Star Trek: Voyager (1995).

1. What would you be doing if you weren’t acting or producing? I don’t typically produce actually, I do direct on occasion. But if I wasn’t doing either of those things, I’d probably be teaching.

2. You’re a legend as Principal Franklin from “iCarly”. Can you tell me more about your experience on set? Experience with main characters? Any favorite moments/scenes/episodes? The days on iCarly were typically long, and the producer would often make changes to the script right there on set while filming. The regulars on the show were fantastic, I can’t say enough about how skilled, and disciplined they were given that they had so much work to do including school for some of them. I liked all the episodes, each one was a kick.

3. As Dr. Meyers on “Hannah Montana”, what was it like working with such talent? Miley Cyrus? The Hannah Montana cast was also great to work with. Everybody got the job done, and they were gracious enough to take a picture with my daughter. Miley’s dad is also a musician so we had that in common.

4. As a recurring character on “Star Trek: the Voyager” (Tuvok), what are your thoughts on the NEW Star Trek movies & stories. Of course, nothing is as good as its original. The new series and films are designed for new audiences. That’s the way things are now days. Everything is being re-booted. The new series starting 2017 will be seeking new audiences as well. So far, from what I’ve seen, the newer projects have been well written and produced.

5. What is the biggest life experience you’ve had over the years? Nothing was more of a change in my life than having a daughter – that is quite the experience. But beyond that… I would say working on S.T. Voyager was an amazing experience in my career as an actor.

6. What are you working on now? I am currently in post production on “Renegades Requiem” and the feature film, “Junkie” both of which I directed. I am in development on 3 other films, and awaiting the release of the feature film, “5th Passenger” which I played a supporting role in.

Jordan Fisher Interviewed ME at B93.7 Studios // ft. Radio Shorty

I meant to post this yesterday but my anxiety has been off the walls. YOU CAN LISTEN TO THE ENTIRE RADIO INTERVIEW HERE on B93.7’s website. I promise you it’s worth the listen & this article is worth the read.

As I headed into the B93.7 Studios I was crazy nervous (like always). Jordan Fisher was in Greenville, South Carolina and I was about to cover his private studio concert. I didn’t have time to pick up a friend so my jitters were the worst. I’m such a huge fan so I had to mentally give myself a professional pep talk. He’s starred on iCarly, Bones, The Thundermans, Teen Wolf, the list goes on. If you wanna watch a clip of him on iCarly, I’ll put the link to the video HERE.

Jordan & Radio Shorty

We all piled into the studio & everyone got settled. We all introduced ourselves and he was a total gentleman. As Shorty introduced me and my website, he invited Jordan to interview ME. The first question of the day what what I was majoring in & my future. I explained why I rejected my offer from UCLA, how I want to major in Communications/Marketing, and that I can see myself one day living in Atlanta. He was very supportive and encouraged me to explore LA. Although it’s a dream, I’m sticking to my plan. He’s still gave me some pretty bomb advice. Jump into whatever you want to do. He walked up to his parents and told them he fell in love with art. They were 100% supportive. My favorite piece of advice was: do what you love and money will come. The rest will come.

Jordan as “Doody” in Cast of Grease Live

Shorty brought up “Grease Live!” & Jordan talked about his pal Vanessa Hudgens. Her dad died like right before the air date for Grease. Everyone on set gave her their condolences and asked her if there was anything they could do to help. She said, “Just being here with you guys.” (Bet you didn’t know that one of Jordan’s favorite things in the world is Star Wars 😉

Jordan with CoStars of Teen Beach Movie

Jordan as “Seacat” in Teen Beach Movie

In the middle of the interview, Radio handed the interview over to me!! I was totally unprepared, but thankfully since I was such a fan, I already had some questions mustered up. As soon as I sat down he told me I had perfect teeth, so I had this goofy grin on the entire time. My first question was, “When I was on my way here I was thinking everyone kinda wants to be where you are right now, what legitimate advice do you have?” He talked about how if you do what you love and only worry about doing what you love then the financial things will come after. Do it because you love it. Don’t do it because you want the hollow things. If you keep working at it you will eventually find your success.

Jordan as "Holden" on Liv & Maddie

Jordan as “Holden” on Liv & Maddie

Then I asked, “In your transitioning process like for example you went from ABC’s Secret Life to to maybe a less mature like a disney channel show like when you did Liv and Maddie: is there like a mentality you have to have? Going from a more mature to a less mature aspect?” Jordan mentioned he’s worked on Liv and Maddie & Teen Wolf at the same time. He would do Liv and Maddie during the day & Teen Wolf during the night. He said, “As I’m growing I’m trying to stay away from the younger demographic. I’m aging and my music is more towards a more mature audience.”

Jordan on "Secret Life of the American Teenager"

Jordan on “Secret Life of the American Teenager”

Last question, “What future projects do you have coming up?” (This was before Jordan’s EP actually released.) He said that the biggest thing so far is his album. His EP. Excitedly he stated,”Its done and I’m excited to share it with everyone. This radio tour and going all over the country to get people excited about what I’ve been working on for the last two years.” After my interview, the first thing Shorty said was, “Heck yeah. I think she did a better job than i did. I quit, I’m gonna let her have my job.” I swear guys, Radio Shorty’s the COOLEST dude.

After all the talking, we finally go to the singing! His hit “All About Us” was his way of introducing himself to the world. I’ll put the videos of him singing here: HERE and HERE.

The Time I Crushed Jesse McCartney’s Foot

2014 was the year I met Jesse McCartney. As I dragged my little brother along, my heart was beating at an agressive rate. Every 10 year old girl grew up with Jesse & the fact that I had the opportunity to see him live was insane. As we poured into the B93.7 Studio, I could feel the anticipation. My brother grumpily crossed his legs, upset that I pulled him away from his bed. Finally it was time & all cell phones were prepared for that first glimpse. As soon as he walked out my heart sunk. Jesse was old. His wrinkles painted his face, but his smile was just the same. He was no longer that heart breaking teenage boy from the J-14 posters on our walls. He was a grown man promoting his new album.

My Brother & I on TV

His girlfriend was parked in the corner of the room the entire time. I remember asking about her, and apparently she was some actress on some show. She looked annoyed & gloomy. To her I’m sure we were just a roomful of kids. But Jesse. He was just like everything I’d seen on TV & his music videos that I watched on repeat. He poured his heart into his songs & you could feel the energy he gave off.

As we formed a line for the meet & greet, my brother was just about fed up. I made sure we had everything ready to take our picture & go. When security gave the okay, we headed into the room. Words can’t explain how enchanting that moment was. I’d been imagining that moment for YEARS. He addressed us & thanked us for coming out. I headed for the right side of him, while my brother sluggishly stayed on the left. The photographer told us to lean in & in my starstruck state, I CRUSHED HIS FOOT. I’m not talking stepped on his foot, I had on combat boots. I could barely walk in them myself. All the weight on my body shifted his way. I could hear a sharp gasp in pain as his girlfriend & his publicist, startled, jumped up at the same time. Nonetheless, he still managed to take a great picture & I’ve never bolted out of a room so fast. We bumped into his guitarist on the way out & I made sure to grab a picture before we left. I don’t have it anymore because my phone got stolen in Myrtle Beach (which you can read about here if you haven’t already).

The only thing I thought about that entire day, was how I was probably the conversation of his night. I’m sure he didn’t expect to show up to a meet and greet & leave with a killer limp. Still, one of the most memorable meet and greets I’ve been to & I have no regrets 🙂 hopefully he still thinks I have a “Beautiful Soul”.

You can watch the entire performance here. In fact, the concert made it on Jesse’s official website here which was kinda cool. love you xx thanks for reading

Summer 16′ Jewelry Must-Haves: Guest Writer

Hey guys! I’m insanely excited to introduce the gorgeous, the talented, my latest guest writer: Beth Pembrook. She’s an incredible freelance writer and a student in London. (You can contact her at bethany.pembrook@gmail.com and/or @bethanypembrook.) Can’t wait for you guys to read her article and fall in love with her as much as I did.

When it comes to buying jewelry, I’m a bit of an addict. I make purchase after purchase – because I see so much out there that I absolutely love! The problem is, I usually end up spending so much money on individual statement pieces and then hardly ever wearing them! That’s why this summer I decided to carefully pick of a few stand out pieces that I could wear day in, day out. I wanted styles that wouldn’t get bored of, but also that I could wear day and night.
If you’re keen on doing the same, here are a few tips I have for selecting for Summer 2016 Must-Haves.
Don’t over-do it with the Ear Bling

I am self-confessed earring addict. I have more pairs than I like the think about to be honest. But really, with so many styles and varieties out there – it’s hard not to be! So my advice for this summer is to not go overboard when buying yourself some new earrings. Select a pair that you can wear straight from the office to a festival somewhere, like these super cute Theo Fennell Yellow Gold Bee Earrings (which I’m obsessed with).

42b3fc448201df2603ed2e8a60528d81

Or these Topshop Tortoiseshell Semi Circle Earrings which really make a statement without going over the top.

Go for a Dainty Necklace

Don’t get me wrong, I love a statement necklace as much as the next girl, but Summer 16’ is all about the more delicate neckwear. A dainty necklace can be worn every day, but will also add an extra sparkle to an evening outfit. They really are designed to look as good with a plain t-shirt as they do with a LBD. Take a look at this pretty rose gold hexagon twist necklace from River Island – a must have necklace for this summer in my opinion.

Alternatively, a new trend I’ve seen around is to actually buy loose pendants, stones or diamonds online, in order to create your own unique necklace! You can get a rope chain, like this Rope Necklace from ASOS, for day/festival wear, and a gold or silver chain for more formal occasions – 2 necklaces in 1!

Sterling Silver Rings

I for one have spent hundreds and hundreds of pounds in the past on statement rings that I’ve only worn a handful of times before they’ve turned my finders green – (yuck!). So my advice to you this summer is to go for the (slightly) more expensive sterling silver variety. These are still on budget, but will last a lot longer then any other costume jewelry. I love, love, love these stacking rings from Accessorize. They’re so cute and will go with ANY summer outfit – guaranteed.

I hope these tips help you select the best pieces for you this summer. The general idea for this season is to get over the larger-than-life statement bauble earrings, and huge gem-stone rings, by downsizing for some prettier alternatives.

Style Appreciation Post: Cole Sprouse

Hey guys! This is my first Style Appreciation Post, but I plan on doing many more in the future 🙂 So, recently I’ve been seeing Cole Sprouse all over Twitter for his latest distinct style. Can we just take a minute to soak in the fact that even though Cole’s not doing any huge projects right now, he’s still taking the internet by storm.

If you don’t recognize the name, you’ll recognize the face. Cole & his brother played Zack and Cody on the hit Disney Channel show “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody”. Ladies and gentleman: welcome to my official Cole Sprouse appreciation post. Cole’s been combining vintage and modern trends to create the most chilling looks.

This is hands down one of Cole’s most popular photos. The way the overalls put the entire piece together inspires the shoes. Oxfords and loafers go great when you’re trying to create something vintage. If you look closely you can see the accessories: a ring on his thumb and a watch.

This is one of my favorites just because it looks like something right out of an old movie. I feel like Aubrey Hepburn could step right into the scene. Cole’s classic look includes a skinny suit but no accessories. If he did have accessories they’d probably take away from the “classic” vibe that’s going on. There’s another picture from this particular shoot where he leaves the button up unbuttoned, giving it a California feel.

This next look was interesting because he pieced together a raw denim shirt with blue jeans. Cole is the first guy I’ve ever seen to pull this look off. Usually denim on denim comes off tacky but the way he matched it with the jacket comes together almost effortlessly.

This. I saw this and LITERALLY sent it to like five of my friends. Cole's glasses are very peculiar. The aged look seems to be his best. I kinda got a young Leonardo Decaprio vibe.

Well that’s all for my first Style Appreciation Post, but I’ll leave some pictures below. Thanks for reading guys! If you know of anyone you’d like to nominate for next time, please feel free to comment!

Sheen Magazine’s Legendary Weekend

During April 29th through May 1st, Sheen Magazine had their Legendary Weekend Event “Celebrating A Decade of Beauty Cultivation.” First off, I’d like to thank Sheen for letting me cover the event while being so accommodating to my aunt Ivy & I. I’d also like to thank Uber for getting us through Atlanta safely! If you don’t know what Uber is: download their safe app. No matter where you are, you can get a ride completely cashless. In fact, Joe Jones is an Uber driver in LA! Sign up with my invite code {mikaylah263ue} to get your first ride completely free!

Kim Chapman and Sammy Haynes

Ivy & I arrived to the Atlanta Marriott Marquis during the Women’s Panel. The popular hotel was packed! We pulled up to valet. Since there were so many people, the valet wasn’t able to accommodate us so we had to find a parking garage near the hotel. I’d done some research the night before and as it turns out, Mockingjay Part 1 & 2 were filmed right in the middle of the Atlanta Marriott Marquis. Anyway, when we walked in the panel was being hosted by Kim Chapman. Mrs. Chapman is the sole publisher of Sheen Magazine. There were some truly inspiring panelists, my favorite being Mushiya. If you haven’t heard of her, I STRONGLY encourage you to look her up. I recorded her entire speech word for word. To paraphrase, she has a TV show called Cutting it in the Atl. She brought out how she started her salon “The Damn Salon” with a comb, a chair, and a goal. her goal was to make natural hair beautiful. As she cleverly put it, don’t waste your time having a dream when you should be having a GOAL. The fashion icon definitely made her mark. I promise you this, she left everyone in that room inspired.

After the women’s panel came the men’s panel. Between the two, this one had the most celebrities. I had the priveledge of sitting front row. “What a Man Wants” was hosted by Sammi Haynes the editor & chief of Sheen. The panelists consisted of Christian Keyes (Saints & Sinners, Beauty and the Beast, Madea Goes to Jail, Diary of a Mad Black Women, etc), T.W. Dawson (motivational speaker, author), Pastor Adrian Davis, Tre Chapman (Chapman Founder Chair as well as Mrs. Chapman’s son) and Andre Braxton (Braxton Family Values, author). When I saw the pictures of the panelists I did an instant double take. I KNEW TRE CHAPMAN. I work at Banana Republic where he and his gorgeous girlfriend are two of our favorite customers. I had planned to go up to him after his panel, but I was surprised to see him appear right beside me! “You work at Banana Republic right?” I couldn’t believe he’d never brought up that his mother owned a magazine, but I realized that I never brought up I was a blogger. I’m always nervous when covering events, but the fact that I knew a familiar face settled my stomach. After the men’s panel I got to meet the rest of the panelists. All the women seemed to make a beeline for Christian Hayes. The highlight of that panel was after my selfie with Mr. Braxton. He asked for one of my business cards. While my aunt & I mingled, I received a few business cards myself. The creator of Lyne Cosmetics from lynecosmetics.com was so intriguing. She makes her own cosmetics and hires her own models. Her products have made celebrity appearances on Nickelodeon, participated in Ryan Seacreast giveaways, and were featured in the Water Mercedes Benz Fashion Show. A portion of each purchase is donated to end violence against women. Then, the CEO of Wrighteous Entertainment offered me his card. He manages not only his daughter, but many young actors/singers in the Atlanta area. Last but not least, Nelson-Merritt Productions. They’re an incredible photography & videography business that I encourage everyone to look in to. Especially since it’s wedding/graduation season.

The Men’s Panel

We called an Uber & headed to Lenox Square since we had a few hours before the Black Tie Gala started. The shopping mall was packed, but we managed to find everything we needed. I picked up a few graduation gifts & Ivy threw herself into the clothes. As I walked into Urban Outfitters, I checked my phone to find multiple text messages from a friend in Atlanta. I had known Beyonce was in the area because she had a concert at the Philips Arena the next day. Thanks to her, I discovered that it was rumored Beyonce was in Lenox at that exact moment. So I did what any fan would do. I got on Twitter… & as it turned out, the term “Lenox” was trending #1 worldwide because of the superstar. I still don’t know for sure if Beyonce was there while I was, but the fact that we shared the same city that day made all the difference.

As we Ubered back to the hotel, our driver passed the hotel drop off spot twice. I was so frustrated because the Gala was supposed to be the main event. Thankfully when we got to the red carpet, none of the honorees had arrived yet. I quickly found a spot in the mob of press. I was probably the only one who wasn’t from the Atlanta area. As the honorees started arriving, the commotion started getting bigger. Security was perched at each door while pressed workers rushed to get everyone in their seats. The honorees & special guests were Kelly Price (six time Grammy nominated singer), Margaret Avery (American actress & singer), Judge Glenda Hatchett (featured on The Tyra Banks Show, The View, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, CNN, etc), Renee Lawless (Tyler Perry’s The Have and the Have Nots), Angela Robinson (Tyler Perry’s The Have and Have Nots, Law and Order: SVU), Cocoa Brown (Ted 2, The People v. O.J. Simpson, Breaking Bad, The Single Moms Club, ER, Austin & Ally, The Arsenio Hall Show, etc), Towanda Braxton (Braxton Family Values, The Wendy Williams Show, BET Awards 2001, etc), Joseline Hernandez (Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta, BET Awards 2015), Jasmine Burke (Saints & Sinners, Ride Along, TVD, Meet the Browns, etc), and many more. The neat thing is, a couple days before the event, Margaret Avery commented on my Instagram picture. We had a small conversation, so when she arrived at the end of the red carpet I was so pumped to tell her who I was. Unfortunately, her manager whisked her away.

Most if not all of the special guests were located in Atlanta, although Sheen Magazine is located in Fountain Inn. The entire Gala was amazing. Under the dim of the lights and the shimmer of the dresses, I felt like I was under the stars. I’ll leave Sheen’s website here. They have events like fashion shows so often & I definitely encourage you guys to check them out. Until next time Atlanta!

Charleston Fashion Week: I sat across from Fern Mallis??

CHARLESTON FASHION WEEK WAS ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE. Huge thank you to the staff for providing our passes. On Saturday March 19th, I had the honor of covering this event with upcoming designer/close friend Makaila. You can check out her shop here and I’ll put her social media here. She’s also an upcoming photographer from Atlanta who kindly agreed to come along and photograph the event.

First of all, just being in Charleston was fascinating. Although it wasn’t my first trip, getting to explore on our own time was such a breathe of air. The palm trees gently brushed against a nearby Urban Outfitters, while the smell of food intoxicated the air. For those who don’t know, most of the movie The Notebook was actually filmed on King Street in Charleston. Plus, even though the fashion show was in Marion Square, we were walking distance from Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church. Passing the church where so many innocent people were killed was eery, but inspiring. Just another addition to a life changing night.

The Youngest Models of the Night

On arrival of the event, we headed to the media section to pick up our press passes. I was literally shaking with excitement. Fern Mallis was the lead judge of the show, who traveled all the way from New York. As Creator of New York Fashion week, she leads fashion shows worldwide including Miami, Los Angeles, and Moscow. Fern was a host of 92Y Fashion Icon series with guest such as Tom Ford, Marc Jacobs, and Dian von Furstenberg. She appeared on Project Runway, America’s Next Top Model, She’s Got the Look, and The Fashion Show. I actually read an article before the show from September. Fern was offered a front row seat at Kanye’s Yeezy Season 2 collection but Kanye was a little upset that she didn’t show up. You can read the article here.

Makaila (right) and I

The lavishly furnished tents reeked of preparation for what lie ahead. Security guards and policeman surrounded the tents. There wasn’t a model in sight, just eager guests waiting to see what the designers had in store. (You can watch my video of the BELK tent here.) I arrived to my seat early. Sparking VOSS waters comfortably sat on each chair. The seats on my row were all labeled media. I was seated on the second row mid stage.

During the show countdown, I noticed a lot of commotion on the other side of the runway. It turned out, all the designers and special guests were right across from me. Including Andrea Serrano. She arrived in a stunning red dress, gracefully greeting the guests around her. Andrea wasn’t only a weekly judge, she’s a popular fashion blogger in the Charleston area. Not only did she do the costume shopping for Army Wives, she also worked with national brands such as Refinery 29, Williams Sonoma, Macy’s, QVC, Maybelline, Sony Records, and more. You can check out her blog here.

Fern Mallis (middle) acting as Lead Judge

I was fortunate enough to acquire press passes to the Emerging Designer Competition. (You can watch my videos of the other lines hereherehere, and here.) Everyone’s lines were so unique but the one that really stood out to me, and apparently the judges as well, was Destani Hoffman’s line. She expressed her emotions in her pieces which were dark, leaving everyone hopelessly mesmerized. As the winner, she received $10,000 as well as an internship. You can see the clip of her line I got here.

After the show we skipped the after party and headed back to the hotel. Some locals informed us that even at such a late hour, most of the restaurants on King Street were still open. So we headed into a taco shop. Thankfully they had a vegetarian menu. On our way back to our car, I noticed there was a women behind us trying to get through. I moved to the side and she noticed my swag bag from the fashion show. “Were you guys at the show?” she asked. We explained that we were press and she introduced herself as ONE OF THE JUDGES. There we were. Walking down King Street with Karen Lee Grybowski. She served as the director of scouting for Wilhelmina, Pauline, and Elite Model Management, as well as traveled the globe looking for new faces. In 2009 she started the Karen Lee Group, a scouting firm that places models with amor agencies around the world. (You can check out her website here.)

As we walked down the dimly lit street, I jokingly asked her if Makaila and I had any chances at becoming models. She stopped in her tracks and immediately studied us. Although Makaila didn’t reach the height limit, she said that I had an interesting look but I needed to get in shape. She proceeded to give me her phone number and encouraged me to shoot her an email. I was dumbfounded.

The BELK Tent

As we made our way to the car, tacos in one hand and swag bags in the other, we both silently knew that what we experienced that night was so rare. Everyone on that runway was stunning and I’ll never forget how fortunate I was to be in attendance.

‘White Chicks’ Steven Grayhm talks Movie Sequel

I totally didn’t expect my interview with Steven Grayhm to go so smoothly. His personally is absolutely amazing while his acting is just the same. Although he’s best known from White Chicks (WHICH YOU CAN WATCH ON NETFLIX), he’s also made appearances in CSI, Sonny with a Chance, Smallville, The Boy Who Cried Wolf, Hellcats, and Alcatraz.

PG: You were cast as Russ in the movie “White Chicks”. How did you react to getting the part?

S: I was actually quite shocked. I had just finished a stage production of HAMLET. I was still shaking off the aftereffects of playing the title role and all that comes with it. I honestly thought it was the last thing I would be cast in. In the end, I guess the director (Keenan Ivory Wayans) thought I was funny. For my final audition he was in the room and he encouraged me to really just go for it. So I did. And…the rest is history.

PG: I re-watched “White Chicks” before our interview and honestly, the scene with Terry Crews where you roll out on a wheelchair is legendary. How many times did it take you to shoot it? (You can watch the scene HERE.)

S: I think twice because we cracked up the first time. For the most part, that scene was actually improvised. I thought it would be funny if I appeared to look like a “violated prom queen”. So, I had the hair department tease my hair. Ridiculous? Absolutely. But again, the artistic freedom we were given by our director was boundless.

Steven on "Sonny with a Chance" costarring with Demi Lovato

Steven on “Sonny with a Chance” costarring with Demi Lovato

PG: It’s been rumored that a “White Chicks” sequel would be coming sometime soon. In fact, Marlon Wayans stated, “We’re thinking about it, actually seriously talking about doing it. It’s the one thing that everybody begs us to do.” If Sony does pick up the sequel, would you agree to star in it?

S: I heard this news and was actually really surprised because both Marlon and Shawn underwent 8 hours of make up a day for those roles. It’s tough because the makeup doesn’t breathe and it obviously makes for really long days combined with shooting for 3-4 months. I love the character of “Party Boy” and more often than not, I’m stopped on the street by people quoting my lines who tell me how much they too love that character, too. Let’s wait and see what happens!

Steven costarring with Victoria Justice on the set of "The Boy Who Cried Werewolf"

Steven costarring with Victoria Justice on the set of “The Boy Who Cried Werewolf”

PG: Who was your favorite person on set to act with & why?

S: I think it’s a tie between our director Keenan Ivory Wayans and my co-star Terry Crews. Keenan because he really made me come out of my shell. Try being funny at 6am in the morning with 300 extras in a scene. It’s like doing a stand up act with no safety net. Well…Keenan WAS the safety net. He really built us up and always let us explore things in every scene. Terry because he was the most prepared actor on that set. He used to play professional football and I think his work ethic is cut from that cloth of being the hardest man working in the room. He continually surprised all of us on set with what he would come up with. FYI that dance he does in the nightclub – he had rehearsed and rehearsed the choreography leading up to that film day. That was his creation and he nailed it.

PG: Can you tell us anything about a “White Chicks” reunion?

S: I haven’t heard anything about that…yet.

PG: What’s your favorite fan moment?

S: Firstly, I don’t like to think of anyone as a “fan”. Maybe more like an enthusiast or a supporter of my work. There have been some pretty crazy moments where people have quoted lines to me in the bathroom of a restaurant. But I think the most touching was the time I was approached by a Best Buy employee who had told me that he had battled cancer – and won! He told me that White Chicks helped him get through all his difficult treatments because it put a smile on his face every day he was feeling down. I don’t care what people say – if you can achieve that? That’s a very beautiful thing!

PG: Are you working on anything right now?

S: Yes. I am doing a show on Netflix called BETWEEN.

‘OITNB”s Germar Gardner: watched the first episode the night before my audition

PG: Playing a Correctional Officer on the show means you get to interact with SO many of the characters on the show! Who by far is your favorite?

G: My favorite character has changed, come back to and changed all over again since I started watching and became involved with the show. It’s so hard to pick just one, so I will take liberty in the question not suggesting that I choose only one and list my favorites. As a viewer, my favorites are Red, Healy, & Morello, I like their backstories. Also I really like the work done by Adrienne C. Moore who plays the character Cindy in season 3. Of course Taylor who plays Piper is great, I thought that from the first time I watched the show, because I started in Season 2 – halfway through season 2 – so I began watching the show to get acclimated to what was going on, and became a real fan. When it comes down to it, everyone, EVERYONE, on the show carries their characters very well

PG: What’s been your favorite scene to perform in so far?

G: You’ll have to put spoiler alert for anyone who has not yet seen Season 3 before this answer gets printed – then again, if readers of this article are fans of Orange, they have probably watched Season 3 2 times over since its release. My favorite scene is in the bar, when all the CO’s gathered to discuss starting a union. The reason it’s my favorite is because we were all there, all the CO’s. So in between takes we are making jokes and just enjoying each other. I got to see the others work and I’m there working off them – they are so talented. It was just a good time pretending to be drunk lol. 21st+Annual+Screen+Actors+Guild+Awards+Press+6bqiYjhg0cul

PG: OITNB generated more viewers and hours viewed in its first week than the other Netflix original series “House of Cards” and “Arrested Development”. Did you expect the show to take off as much as it did?

G: Well, I started in the middle of the second season. By that time the show had already made its stance known. Funny thing is, I had heard very little about it, and had not watched a single episode. My brother was a fan of the show then and we had always talked about how dope it was that Netflix existed. I remember him telling me that Netflix was going to start making their own original shows and I thought “Damn, they’re bout to take over the entertainment game!” Then he starts telling me “you gotta watch Orange is the New Black”….I’m like “ok”, and never started. When my manager told me I would be seen for a role (which I thought would only be for one episode back then – 2013) I watched the first episode the night before my audition, just to get a feel for what casting might be looking for……long story short, I stayed up until 5am watching the show, because it was that good. I could not turn away. So once I saw it, I was a believer.

PG: I watched your interview at the SAG awards! Can you describe your experience at the SAG awards?

G: Nirvana! Just like that. Ever since I was a kid, I’d wanted to act. As I got older and began watching awards shows like the Oscars, Emmy’s, Golden Globes etc. I always wondered what it was like to be there. So to actually put my feet on that red carpet – to see how long it stretched; the lights, the people. To stand on the stage, and look out at – what are now considered my peers – when we won for Best Ensemble. My first time out there, and we go home with an Actor (the trophy)….so far, outside of watching my daughter come into this world, it is the single best experience of my life. tumblr_npy5zqwv0w1upr0ygo1_500

PG: What do you do when you’re not working?

G: When I’m not working, I am looking for work, lol. Traditional out of work actor stuff, I guess. I try to stay up on my craft – reading plays. I try to stay in a scene study class or go to an acting seminar to stay sharp. I watch a lot of movies. Watch a lot of interviews of actors that I respect and admire – I guess I am preparing for my turn (smile) – but mostly to stay inspired. I spend time with family and friends. I have always wanted to write and direct film as well; at some point I hope destiny grants me the opportunity – so I also study those arts in my spare time.

PG: Do you have any projects you’re working on now?

G: I do actually, but it is in its earliest stages of development and there is no telling where it may land. But for those that follow me and would like to see my work, I say continue to follow me and you will definitely hear some news soon…hopefully it will be good news. Vicky+Jeudy+Germar+Terrell+Gardner+21st+Annual+Xzm_FlV-JZfl

PG: For all the PopGabble readers dying for season 4, can you give us any hints?

G: All I can say about Season 4 is that I am sure you will be as captivated and thrilled as you were the first 3 seasons, because that’s what Jenji and the team of creatives over there do – give you the best!

Here’s what we know for sure about Season 4:

  • Jackie Cruz, who plays Flaca, and Lea DeLaria, who plays Big Boo, were promoted to series regulars which means we should be getting more insight into their lives.
  • Alex is probably still alive. This Instagram picture she posted here, gives us hope! She captioned it “Glasses✔️Eyeliner✔️Badge✔️ …excited to get out there and make an awesome season for you guys! #season4 #alexvause #Oitnb #bestfansever”.
  • It’s still unconfirmed whether Ruby Rose will be appearing in Season 4. She stated, “It could go either way.” Let’s be honest. We really just wanna know how she keeps her hair so perfect in prison.
  • Caitlyn Jenner will NOT be appearing in the new season. A few months ago Laverne Cox clarified it as a rumor.

What we NEED answered is: is Nick ever coming back from Maximum Security? Where is Bennett and what’s gonna happen to he and Daya’s baby? Will Piper get released?? 18 months isn’t a very long time…but hey there’s always the chance that she gets a longer sentence. From where Season 3 left off, it looks like she’s only digging herself deeper and deeper into more trouble. Whatever happens, Season 4 is looking not to disappoint.
